The short version

We collect very little. We don't sell or rent personal information. We use standard analytics to understand which pages are helpful, and we use cookies only as needed for the site to work. You can use this site without giving us anything personal.

What we collect

Information you give us

If you contact us by email, we receive whatever you choose to send us (your email address, message, and any attachments). We use that information only to respond and to improve our content.

Information collected automatically

We use server logs and analytics, which may include:

  • IP address and approximate location (city/region level)
  • Browser type and version, device type, operating system
  • Pages visited, time on page, and how you arrived at the site
  • Referring website (if any)

This is the same kind of information almost any website collects. We use it in aggregate to understand which guides are useful, where pages can be improved, and which content to write next.

Cookies

We use a small number of cookies and similar technologies for the following purposes:

  • Strictly necessary. Cookies that make the site work — for example, remembering your preferences during a session.
  • Analytics. If we enable Google Analytics or a similar service, it sets cookies to measure aggregate site usage.

You can disable cookies in your browser. The site will still work, though some preferences may not stick between visits.

How we use information

  • To operate and improve the site
  • To respond to messages you send us
  • To understand which content is helpful and what to write next
  • To detect and prevent abuse, fraud, or security issues

What we don't do

  • We don't sell or rent personal information.
  • We don't share your information with attorneys, providers, or anyone else without your consent.
  • We don't build profiles for advertising.
  • We don't ask about your court case unless you choose to share details by email.

Third-party services

We may use these third-party services, which have their own privacy policies:

  • Hosting and CDN (currently Netlify) — collects standard server logs.
  • Analytics (Google Analytics or similar) — collects aggregate usage data.
  • Fonts (Google Fonts) — loads font files; may log IP addresses.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete the personal information we hold about you. You can exercise these rights by emailing us at [email protected].

Children's privacy

This site is meant for adults — parents, family members, and professionals. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can delete it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will update the "last updated" date at the top of this page when we do. For material changes, we will note them more prominently.
